Goal: To expand the global platform for programs designed and developed to service the educational health and cultural needs of people of African descent throughout the world. All programmatic components of the facet are delivered through measurable and sustainable service delivery methods that reach women and their families.; Collaboration with other organizations in sponsoring international programs. and support ing international organizations on the local, national, and international levels.
Facet Highlights: Linking with Haiti - has been the facets service project since 2014. The facet developed women's survival kits - personal hygiene and daily living needs . Since then, the chapter has helped build a water well in Haiti. In 2014, the chapter began a partnership with Harbor City (CA) Chapter, who have an established relationship with an organization in Haiti. Harbor City travels to Haiti and delivers the personal hygiene kits.
In alignment with The Links, Incorporated, our mission is Friends Transforming Communities Through Service and we are “Linked in Friendship and Connected in Service.” Our chapter has been supporting a school in Jamaica, Watford Hill Primary School with providing seeds for their garden to help the children grow food to help combat food insecurity in the country.
In observance of International Literacy Day, celebrated, September 11 ……a day that focuses attention on the need to address the challenges girls face and to promote girls’ empowerment and the fulfilment of their human rights, chapters have been asked to (1)host reading circles sessions in global spaces that they support (2) donate STEM books to the students at the Mt. Carey Baptist Basic and Infant School no later than October 31.
Chapters are asked to purchase a minimum of three STEM books for students at the Mt. Carey Baptist Basic & Infant School. Books should be labelled with the chapter's name and should include an age-appropriate note about the importance of STEM for children ages 3-5 years old.
The International Trends and Services Facet donated 125 head phones from the School Wish List.
Members of the chapter will be donating items off of the wish list.
Claremont Area (CA) Chapter’s Celebration of International Women’s Day
The International Trends and Services Facet of The Claremont Area Chapter of The Links, Incorporated celebrated International Women’s Day. with two guests at the March 9, 2024 meeting. The guests were Maisie Dawes, a native of Jamaica, and Kro Won, a native of Liberia.
Maisie used a power point to tell the story of Nanny of the Marrons, the only woman of the seven national Jamaican heroes, as well as recite a poem, written by her sister-in-law regarding freedom fighters.
Kro demonstrated various methods of head wrapping.
Chapter members dressed in ethnic clothing.
In addition to the presentations, the chapter members were treated to Jamaican Red Beans and Rice, Jerk Chicken Wings, Veggie Patties, and Ginger Beer.
